Since its creation in 1973, the Endangered Species Act has protected the United States' most vulnerable plants and animals. Today, it protects more than 1,600 species which are under threat or on the verge of extinction.

This landmark piece of legislation enjoys an incredible 99-percent success rate at preventing extinction for the species under its protection. Without the ESA, scientists estimate at least 227 species would have likely gone extinct since the law's passage.

When Donald Trump ran for president, he claimed his administration would get rid of ineffectual bureaucracy and wasteful government programs. So why, then, is the Endangered Species Act under threat? This law is one of the U.S.A.'s most effective pieces of legislation. According to the Center for Biological Diversity, "To date, only 10 species protected under the Act have been declared extinct, and of these, eight were likely extinct before they were protected."

In a roundtable meeting with automobile industry leaders, Trump claimed that environmental regulations were, "out of control" and hampering industry. An objective assessment of the Endangered Species Act's impeccable track record proves this is not the case.

Trump and his corporate crony friends don't care about preserving America's threatened animals and plants. One need only look to Trump's nominations of climate-denying Scott Pruitt to head of the EPA and Ryan Zinke to head the Department of the Interior, a proponent of exempting agribusiness from ESA regulations, to see they are motivated by profit and greed, not the welfare of the United States' land, animals, or plants.

We won't sit by while America's natural treasures are exploited and destroyed by the highest bidder. Tell Trump and the Senate and House of Representatives leaders you oppose their attacks on the Endangered Species Act!

To President Trump,

I am writing to you today to express my deep concern for your administration's attacks on the Endangered Species Act. Your recent anti-environment nominations to lead both the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of the Interior indicate a clear desire to protect profits and corporate interests over the biodiversity of our country.

Jan 20, 2018 Mary Summers To my understanding at least sea otters, and Perigrin Falcons have rebounded in numbers enough to no longer need protection under the ESA. But this legislation works. Why get rid of laws that do what they were intended to, and solve real problems? Look
