Baby Rhino Marks a New Milestone for Indian Park

The healthy, female rhinoceros calf born in Manas National Park in India marked a new milestone in the efforts to reintroduce rhinos to the region.

"This is the first calf born in the wild in India from a rhino that had been hand-raised, rehabilitated, and released to the wild," said Azzedine Downes, president and CEO of the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW).

Return Orphaned Elephants & Rhinos to the Wild

In February 2011, five orphaned elephant calves were successfully moved from the Wildlife Rescue Center in Kaziranga to the Doimari range of the Manas National Park. This was the third elephant move since 2007 and another milestone in the Elephant Re-Introduction Project being attempted for the first time in India's history.
