Basketball tournament to raise money for breast cancer

Two rival high schools from Michigan will put their competitive spirit to good use for the third annual Pink Halo Project event and basketball tournament at St. Clair High School in St. Clair, Michigan. Marine City and St. Clair high schools hope to reach their three-year grand total of $25,000 for breast cancer initiatives, according TheTimesHerald.com.

"Both ends of the district are coming together for a common theme of serving our community. They are coming together to have a great day of basketball and also for the bigger picture. It's going to be a great day for cancer research," Jeff Cook, assistant principal of St. Clair High School, told the news source.

The event will also be accompanied by raffles, a silent auction and a blood drive. This is the third year for the Project, which has raised a combined $18,000 over the past two years.

The proceeds from the event will go to the Coaches vs. Cancer campaign and the rest will help the local cancer care center, St. John River District Hospital.

According to BreastCancer.org, about 1 in 8 women in the United States will develop some form of invasive breast cancer in their lifetime.
