The recent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico was an indisputable tragedy for its residents. Still, there are other creatures which have been severely impacted by the environmental disaster - local pets.
In fact, USA Today reports
that animal shelters in Louisiana have been flooded with cats and dogs abandoned by their owners. Thankfully, some high-profile celebrities are lending their star power and efforts to help them.
Pamela Anderson, former Baywatch babe and outspoken animal rights activist, was in New Orleans aiding with the relocation of 50 pups from the southern state to Virginia.
"People can't afford to feed their families, so the family member that gets left behind and has to go is the pet," Anderson told the news outlet.
Once the canines make their way to Virginia, they will be put up for adoption and hopefully will find another loving home.
Anderson has been a lifelong vegetarian and is currently the honorary chairman for the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
